The prophecy alluded to above is Isaiah 11:1-2. Since so often the prophecies in the Hebrew Scripture are purposefully mistranslated and misquoted we have to be careful to make sure that the Greek and Christian Scriptures are faithful to the Hebrew Scriptures. First below is the passage taken from a Jewish Tanakh (Bible).
1 ¶ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots. 2 And the spirit of the L-RD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the L-RD. 3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the L-RD; and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither decide after the hearing of his ears;
Now let us look at the the same verse as taken from a King James Bible:
Isa 11:1-2 1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the L-RD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the L-RD; (KJV)
We are fortunate in this passage to not have to deal with Gentile "creationist theology" as the verses are basically the same. Now we can begin to look for truth from these passages and see if it can truthfully be related to the Jesus of the New Testament.
Of course Christians will maintain that Isaiah 11:1-2 makes reference to the "shoot" or "branch" and they define it as a root out of Jesse and label this "root" as the Messiah, the anointed one. Since they approach everything with the supposition that Jesus "is" the Messiah then circular reasoning says:
But circular reasoning as such makes for poor proof of anything.
Answer for yourself: What is the truth of the matter?
Yes, Messiah will be of the house of David. But we have a very difficult problem presented to us by Christian theology as they "shoot themselves" in the foot. According to Christian theology Joseph was said not to be Jesus' father since Jesus had an immaculate conception and virgin birth and could not possibly be tied to the blood line of Joseph nor the David lineage. We know today where the ancients did not that the blood of the baby is determined by the chromosomes of the father and not the mother. Following such reasoning and science we find that such a belief in a virgin birth and an immaculate conception renders Jesus outside of the Davidic lineage and he could not possibly be of the "root of the stem of Jesse" if we adhered to traditional orthodox Christian teaching concerning Jesus' conception and birth. By such admissions of Christian theology and Rome Jesus is not of the house of David and is disqualified from being a Messianic candidate.
Additionally, it is not sufficient to be of the house of David to be the Messiah.
Answer for yourself: What does this mean?
One must also fulfill all of the major Messianic prophecies. Jesus fulfilled none of the major Messianic prophecies which were expected to occur by the Jewish people as taught and prophesied by their prophets for hundreds of years. On this website as well as others I have dealt and continue to deal with the falsified Messianic prophecies and expose such literary creationism. Just understand as we proceed that there is a big, big difference between the TRUE MESSIANIC PROPHECIES IN THE HEBREW BIBLE THAT REMAIN UNCORRUPTED TODAY.....AND...THE PURPOSEFULLY MISQUOTED, MISTRANSLATED, AND MISAPPLIED TEXTS IN OUR CHRISTIAN BIBLES THAT ARE PASSED OFF AS "FULFILLED PROPHECIES." Let us proceed.
Answer for yourself: In spite of the failure of the true Messianic prophecies to be fulfilled Christianity continually teaches that the Messiah has come in the person of Jesus/Yeshua. The Jewish people today do not recognize Yeshua as Messiah because of this failure of the Messianic prophecies to be fulfilled. Who is right?
The following is taken from Faith Strengthened by Isaac Troki, from pp32-38, and are paraphrased by me for the most part. These are signs that signal the coming of Messiah. When these things occur and are visible for all to see then and only then look up for your redemption draws nigh. You be the judge if these things occurred or were accomplished by Jesus during his earthly ministry or has happened since. Shalom.
There are 10 more events to occur. This is only half of the list. NONE of them have occurred, so the messiah has not yet come in the opinion of the Jews, and let us remember it was to them he was promised....they should know! The, Jewish people, of all people, should know what to expect. If Yeshua is the Messiah these events were not accomplished by him or his followers following his resurrection. They yet await fulfillment. To those who say a second coming provides the platform for such fulfillments need look into what prompted the origin of such a teaching of a "second coming." After finding out that the original teaching of a "second coming" applied to the Essenes' Teacher of Righteousness originally, then we are hard pressed to say that such a teaching was a Divine revelation concerning Jesus. But yet not knowing the future only time will tell whom the Messiah will be, but to say that Yeshua is the Messiah, when these Messianic events go lacking, is more an emotional response rather one based upon the facts of the matter and the prophecies as they are stated in the uncorrupted Jewish Scriptures. One finds the reason for such a declaration out of emotion only as the facts of history and the Jewish Bible do not lend support to such a belief. David Flusser, a very well known Jewish scholar today, says it best when asked if he thinks Jesus is the Messiah: "I will approach him and ask: 'been here before?'" Time will tell will it not? But to say that Jesus or anyone is "the" branch for sure when the Hebrew prophecies remain unfulfilled is totally wrong due to the lack of evidence of these prophecies being fulfilled as delineated above. Shalom.
